Now that President Trump has instituted a full-on “transgender” ban in the military, MTV plans to retaliate by inviting several trans service members to the Video Music Awards (VMAs), according to the Department of Defense.
“DoD confirms that MTV has invited Service members in their personal capacity to this year’s VMAs,” Lt. Col. Paul Haverstick told NBC. “At the request of the Services, DoD is reviewing the parameters of the individual invitations.”
Network president Chris McCarthy says the MTV would be “honored” to have the trans service members in attendance at the VMAs.
“We would be honored if they could attend,” McCarthy told NBC News. “Any patriot who is putting their own life at risk to fight for our freedom and stands for equality is a hero at MTV, and to young people everywhere.”
The number of active transgenders in the military is estimated at between 1,320 and 6,630 (out of a total of about 1.3 million service members), according to a 2016 Rand study.
MTV made another politically correct move this year when it announced that their iconic “Moonman” will now be called the “Moon Person,” even though no woman has walked on the moon.
